In a proactive effort to tackle the ongoing violent attacks that have resulted in numerous fatalities in rural communities across Plateau State, Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has officially inaugurated a High-Powered Fact-Finding Committee. This initiative aims to investigate the incessant assaults on communities within the state.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Rayfield, where Governor Mutfwang outlined the committee’s key responsibilities. These include identifying affected communities, assessing the extent of destruction, and determining casualty figures.
The committee is also tasked with uncovering the identities of the perpetrators, understanding their motives and potential sponsors, tracing the routes used by the assailants, and recommending effective measures to prevent future attacks. Furthermore, the committee will propose appropriate interventions and support for victims and the communities impacted by the violence.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of this committee, stating, “We deemed it necessary to establish this high-powered fact-finding committee to critically examine the incessant attacks on Plateau communities. Their assignment includes conducting a thorough assessment of the recurring security breaches, understanding their root causes, and proposing actionable recommendations to restore peace, justice, and stability in the affected areas.”
He added, “Plateau State continues to make headlines for the wrong reasons, and this trend must change. Our state has immense potential to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s food security. We are a peace-loving and accommodating people, and we want our identity to reflect our hospitality and resilience.”
The Governor assured the committee of his administration’s full support, promising a conducive environment for them to effectively carry out their mandate.
In response, the committee’s Chairman, Maj. Gen. Nicholas Rogas (Rtd), expressed the committee’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities with integrity and professionalism. “We assure the Governor and the people of Plateau State that we will carry out this task with utmost sincerity and professionalism. Our aim is to produce a comprehensive report that will serve the collective interest of our dear state. May God grant us the wisdom and strength to help build a Plateau where peace and justice prevail, where no one is oppressed or unjustly dispossessed,” he stated.
The committee comprises notable members, including Hon. Justice Esther Lolo, Mr. Segun Adeniyi, Prof. Liman Tukur, Mr. Jonathan Kure, Mr. Lawan Usman Safana, Barr. Yakubu Bawa, Mr. Gad Shamaki, Hajiya Amina Elelu Ahmed, and Barr. Timothy Parlong.
