Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has named the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as his likely next political home, as he moves closer to exiting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, made the disclosure on Tuesday during a meeting with a delegation from the ADC. The delegation was led by Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Addressing journalists after a closed-door session at the Government House in Bauchi, the governor attributed his planned defection to the protracted crisis engulfing the PDP, stating that all reconciliation efforts had proven futile.
“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation,” Mohammed said. “I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked. We set up committees at both the national and state levels to explore all options, including even the All Progressives Congress (APC), but sadly, we discovered that we are not wanted there.”
While noting that discussions were ongoing with several political platforms, the governor revealed that the ADC had emerged as the most viable and welcoming option thus far.
“As of now, ADC appears to be a very welcoming and acceptable platform,” Mohammed stated. “However, we have not concluded discussions. We are engaging stakeholders to ensure we do not make mistakes.”
The governor added that a final decision is expected imminently, with a formal declaration of his defection anticipated by Thursday.
