Barrister Sani Ahmad Haruna, Chairman of Gombe Local Government and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Gombe State, has donated 50 footballs to amateur clubs that participated in the recently concluded State Division One League.
The donation aims to encourage the teams and support the State Football Association’s efforts to develop grassroots football, with Barrister Haruna affirming that ALGON remains committed to sports development in the state.
Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr. Manasseh Jatau, praised the State FA for engaging youth through football and urged other sports association heads to organise similar competitions for volleyball, handball, hockey, and cricket.
FA Chairman Yakubu Sarma expressed satisfaction that the league concluded without major incidents. Prudential Sports Limited, a league sponsor, also equipped the finalist clubs. Malam Farouk Yarma, the company’s founder, described the initiative as a commitment to nurturing local talent and fostering community engagement.
Herwagana Stars FC emerged champions of the 2025 Gombe State Division One League after defeating Bappah Boys 3-1 in the final match.
