Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has achieved another milestone in her film career as her latest cinema production, *Behind The Scenes*, grossed ₦512 million within 12 days of its theatrical release, setting a new record as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025.

The dramatic feature, which explores the socio-economic concept of black tax, had its advanced screening on 10 and 11 December before officially opening in cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana on 12 December. According to FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, *Behind The Scenes* has become the fastest Nollywood production to cross the ₦500 million mark, surpassing previous records in the industry.

FilmOne Entertainment confirmed the achievement through a statement on its official Instagram page on Monday, expressing gratitude to cinema audiences across West Africa for their overwhelming support. “And yet, another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love,” the distributor stated.

The announcement highlighted multiple records achieved by the film, noting that it currently holds the position of highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025, fastest Nollywood movie to reach ₦500 million, and emerged as the number one film across cinemas during the weekend. “This is what belief looks like,” FilmOne Entertainment added, emphasising that the box office performance reflects strong audience confidence in both the story and its creators.

The film had previously made headlines during its opening weekend when it crossed ₦200 million, becoming the first Nollywood movie in 2025 to achieve that milestone. At the time, FilmOne Entertainment described *Behind The Scenes* as having recorded the biggest opening weekend of the year, whilst also noting it was a five-time box office opening weekend record holder with the highest weekend admissions in 2025.

*Behind The Scenes* features Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, supported by an ensemble cast that brings together some of Nollywood’s most recognised talents. The film stars Funke Akindele herself, alongside Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, and Ini Dima-Okojie. The cast also includes popular comedian Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, veteran actor Ibrahim Chatta, content creator Kamo State, and reality television personalities Handi and Wanni Danbaki, amongst others.

The film’s central theme revolves around black tax, a term used to describe the financial obligations many Black professionals face in supporting extended family members and communities. This social commentary resonates particularly with Nigerian audiences, where familial financial responsibilities remain a significant cultural reality for many working-class and middle-income earners.

This latest success reinforces Funke Akindele’s position as one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmakers. The actress and producer has consistently demonstrated her ability to create content that appeals to mass audiences whilst maintaining profitability. Her previous productions have similarly performed strongly at the box office, establishing her as a reliable draw for cinema audiences across Nigeria and the West African region.

The rapid accumulation of ₦512 million within less than two weeks indicates sustained audience interest and positive word-of-mouth marketing, factors that have historically contributed to the longevity of successful Nigerian films in theatres. With the film still showing in cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana, industry observers anticipate that *Behind The Scenes* may continue to break additional records before concluding its theatrical run.

The commercial success of *Behind The Scenes* represents broader trends within Nigeria’s film industry, which has seen increased investment in cinema-quality productions and improved distribution networks over recent years. According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, the country’s box office has experienced consistent growth, with local productions increasingly competing with international releases for audience attention and revenue.

FilmOne Entertainment’s role as distributor has been crucial to the film’s widespread availability, ensuring that *Behind The Scenes* reached multiple cinema locations simultaneously across Nigeria and Ghana. The distributor’s infrastructure and marketing capabilities have contributed to maximising the film’s commercial potential during its theatrical release window.

The achievement also highlights the growing appetite amongst Nigerian audiences for locally produced content that addresses relatable social issues. Black tax, as depicted in the film, touches on themes of financial pressure, family expectations, and personal ambition—topics that resonate across demographic groups within the country.

The success of *Behind The Scenes* sets a new benchmark for Nollywood productions in 2025, demonstrating that well-executed local content with strong casting and relevant storytelling can achieve significant commercial returns.
