Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has openly reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, breaking into a chant in the President’s honour just one day after officially dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a public event in Port Harcourt, Fubara delivered a spirited refrain that immediately caught public attention: “If you dey support Tinubu, no follow corner-corner. We support Tinubu, we no dey follow corner-corner.”

The governor’s chant, described by his aides as a “declaration of open alignment,” comes barely 24 hours after he formalised his long-speculated defection to the ruling APC — a move that significantly alters the political landscape in Rivers State.

Fubara, who has been engaged in a prolonged political rift with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, said his decision to join the APC was based on his desire to work harmoniously with the Federal Government and ensure continued development for the state.

According to the governor, his public chant symbolised both his personal commitment to Tinubu and a message to political actors who, he claimed, “pretend in the daytime and dine in the opposition at night.”

Political observers say Fubara’s dramatic declaration signals a full realignment of forces ahead of the next electoral cycle, positioning Rivers — one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states — firmly within the orbit of the ruling party.

The APC at the national level has welcomed his defection, describing it as “a reaffirmation of confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership,” while PDP leaders in Rivers State have dismissed the move as “an act of convenience, not conviction.”

For now, Governor Fubara appears intent on making his new allegiance unmistakably clear — not just with policy moves, but with music.
