Former Secretary to the Gombe State Government (SSG), Bala Magaji, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stepping down as Chairman of the party’s Elders Committee as he finalises plans to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Magaji’s resignation marks another significant setback for the PDP in Gombe State, where the opposition party has continued to grapple with internal divisions and a wave of high-profile defections.
In a move that is expected to reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections, the former SSG formally relinquished his leadership position within the PDP, signalling the end of his longstanding association with the party.
Although Magaji has yet to publicly announce the exact date of his formal defection, political sources indicate that preparations have been concluded for his move to the APC, a development likely to strengthen the ruling party’s influence in Gombe.
His departure adds to the growing list of prominent political figures abandoning the PDP amid shifting political alliances across the country, underscoring the intense realignments taking place ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Political observers believe Magaji’s exit could have far-reaching implications for the PDP’s fortunes in Gombe, particularly given his stature as a respected elder statesman and influential figure within the state’s political establishment.
