Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that could reshape political alignments ahead of future elections.
In a statement announcing his departure, Duke criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alleging a lack of respect for Nigeria’s southern region.
The development adds to growing tensions within opposition ranks, where questions of regional balance and political inclusivity have increasingly come to the fore.
While Duke did not immediately outline his next political move, his resignation is expected to fuel fresh debate about coalition-building and the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
The phrase “A New Nigeria Is Possible,” often associated with reformist political messaging, resurfaced in reactions to the announcement, signalling that the move may resonate beyond party lines as political actors reposition for the future.
