The Federal Government has approved an increase in the feeding budget for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during their orientation course.

NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu announced the adjustment while addressing 2026 Batch C, Stream One corps members at the Cross River State Orientation Camp in Obubra. He said the Budget Office has been informed of the upward revision and that implementation is expected to begin next year.

General Nafiu urged corps members to exercise financial responsibility, avoid extravagant spending and cultivate disciplined savings habits. He also stressed precautions for personal safety while travelling, advising corps members to avoid journeys after 6 p.m., refrain from resting in public places and avoid sleeping in groups at filling stations.

“If you are at risk, proceed to military installations, police stations or DSS offices and contact the NYSC hotline,” he said.

Nafiu said the NYSC would intensify efforts to engage stakeholders in establishing and rehabilitating infrastructure at the Obubra Orientation Camp. He encouraged corps members to improve the value of their certificates by acquiring practical skills such as cosmetology and traditional hairstyling.

During a camp status presentation, NYSC Cross River State Coordinator Adejoke Oyenuga described the Director-General’s visit as a demonstration of his commitment to corps members’ welfare. She reported that 1,064 corps members had been registered at the camp and that they had successfully adapted to the structured camp environment.
