A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has confirmed Hon. Muhammed Sani Gambo as the legitimate chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State.
Delivering judgment in suit no. FHC/LKJ/CS/39/2024, Justice Isah A. Danshan declared Gambo the duly elected state chairman and ordered his immediate swearing‑in, saying “nature abhors a vacuum.” The court directed relevant security agencies to facilitate the swearing‑in and instructed the national leadership of the PDP and other authorities to recognise Gambo as the authentic Kogi State chairman.
The judgment followed scrutiny of INEC result sheets from the party’s August 31, 2024 congress. The court found that because the purported winner, Enemona Anyebe, had been previously barred from contesting, the party’s zoning arrangement and the tally of valid votes made Gambo — who finished second on the ballot but secured the majority of valid votes — the rightful chairman.
The court also dismissed a joinder suit filed by Tony Amego, who claimed victory through micro‑zoning, describing the claim as baseless and without merit.
Reacting to the ruling, Gambo described the outcome as “no victor, no vanquished,” and called for unity within the party. He pledged to rebuild and strengthen the PDP in Kogi State ahead of the 2027 general elections and urged his former rivals to join him. Gambo expressed optimism that the party would reclaim the governorship and contest strongly for the presidency in 2027, describing the PDP as “the party for Nigerians.”
