The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, has clarified that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is not a member of the ruling party but serves under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Basiru made this statement while addressing ongoing public debates regarding Wike’s political affiliation and his role in the current government. Speaking on *Beyond The Headlines*, he attributed the recent political gains by the APC in the FCT local government elections to governance outcomes overseen by Wike.

“Wike is not a member of our party, but he works for an APC government headed by Tinubu,” Basiru emphasized.

He further highlighted the minister’s role in the significant infrastructural development across the FCT, including both urban and suburban areas, over the past two and a half years. According to Basiru, this effective administration, combined with strategic candidate selection by the APC, contributed to the party’s electoral success in the FCT.

“When you see the massive infrastructural development that has occurred in the FCT, not only in the urban areas but even in the suburbs, you’ll discover that the sterling performance of the FCT Minister, together with the engagement that our party has done and the careful selection of candidates with a history in different political parties, contributed to APC’s victory in the FCT local government elections.”

He concluded, “So you cannot discountenance effective administrative deployment of the dividends of democracy in the FCT under the present FCT administration from the success of our party in that election.”

The statement underscores APC’s intention to assert its leadership role in FCT governance while delineating Wike’s political position as an appointee rather than a party member.
