President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the transfer of critical oversight roles in revenue generation, debt management, and customs operations from the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The decision, confirmed by a high-level government source who spoke exclusively with OBSERVERS TIMES on condition of anonymity, marks one of the most substantial reassignments of fiscal responsibilities since the inauguration of the current administration.

According to the directive, Dr. Uzoka-Anite will now assume full oversight of domestic finances, with expanded mandates that include:

– Revenue generation and distribution
– Management of all domestic debt
– Home Finance and Technical Services
– Cash Management
– Revenue sharing among tiers of government and the Federation Account
– Supervision of the Nigerian Customs Service
– Development Finance initiatives

The reorganization effectively elevates the Minister of State’s office to a central role in shaping and implementing Nigeria’s fiscal policies, particularly those related to internal revenue mobilization and financial accountability.

President Tinubu’s move is widely interpreted within top government circles as an effort to streamline economic governance and strengthen operational efficiency within the Federal Ministry of Finance. It also signals growing confidence in Dr. Uzoka-Anite, a former banker and Imo State, who now takes charge of core revenue-driving agencies at a time when the government is pushing aggressively to improve non-oil income and reduce reliance on borrowing.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, is expected to retain focus on broader economic planning, international finance, and macroeconomic strategy.

As of press time, the Presidency has not issued an official statement regarding the changes. Neither Minister Edun nor Dr. Uzoka-Anite has publicly commented on the reassignment of roles.
