Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former Special Adviser on Media to ex-Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Yakasai announced the move on Monday via his verified social media accounts, describing it as the start of a “new journey” in his political career. He stated that the decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
The politician, who was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Kano State during the 2023 elections, confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to the APC and completed his registration with the ADC.
“After consultations with family, friends, and fellow political associates, we have decided to join the ADC—a new journey! I have already submitted my resignation letter to the APC and registered with our new party, the ADC,” Yakasai said.
He encouraged his supporters to utilize the ADC’s online registration platform, noting that membership cards can be obtained digitally. Expressing optimism about the party’s future, he prayed for divine guidance and success, adding that he hopes the ADC will form governments across Nigeria and bring progress to the nation.
Yakasai’s political trajectory has been characterized by notable shifts and public controversies. In 2021, he was suspended and later dismissed as Ganduje’s spokesperson following public criticism of the federal government’s handling of security issues.
After leaving the APC, he joined the PRP and contested for governor in 2023. He later rejoined the APC following internal party pressures and political realignments—a move that surprised many observers at the time.
