The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a public statement refuting a widely circulated Facebook post that falsely claimed the agency arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for allegedly raising a false alarm about an attack by Fulani herdsmen during a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.

In the statement signed by Favour Dozie, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, the DSS described the claim as “incorrect” and potentially harmful, noting that it appears designed to tarnish the agency’s reputation and incite public unrest.

The DSS clarified that Evangelist Daniel was neither invited nor arrested by the service. His spouse, Elizabeth, who authored the post, confirmed upon contact that she was with him at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, further discrediting the viral misinformation.

The agency emphasized the seriousness with which it views such misrepresentations, particularly those that could disrupt ongoing security operations or escalate tensions. It urged the public to rely on verified information and official communication channels to counter the spread of disinformation that threatens national security.

This statement comes amid growing concerns over the impact of false narratives on public order and the need for accurate reporting in sensitive security contexts.
