Nigeria’s Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Disu, has arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja ahead of his formal decoration ceremony at the seat of power.
Disu was received at the forecourt of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, where senior government officials and top police officers gathered for the brief but symbolic event marking his elevation to the rank of Inspector-General.
The decoration ceremony, traditionally conducted by the President, formally confirms the new police chief’s authority to lead the Nigeria Police Force. The event is expected to be attended by members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs and senior security stakeholders.
Disu’s appointment comes at a critical moment for Nigeria’s internal security architecture, as authorities grapple with insurgency in the North East, banditry in the North West and rising concerns over violent crime in urban centres.
Security analysts say the new police chief faces immediate pressure to reform operational strategies, strengthen intelligence-led policing and rebuild public trust in law enforcement institutions.
The Presidency has not yet released details of the strategic priorities that will define Disu’s tenure, but officials indicate that enhancing inter-agency collaboration and boosting community policing efforts will be central to his mandate.
The decoration ceremony is expected to conclude with a closed-door meeting between the Acting IGP and senior presidential aides.
