The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing it of failing to deliver good governance and transparency across the state.

In a Democracy Day statement issued on Thursday, PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella alleged that the six-year tenure of Governor Abiodun has been marked by “incompetence, nepotism, and lack of transparency,” adding that the government has fallen short of expectations in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, health and youth empowerment.

“The government of Dapo Abiodun has failed the people of Ogun State,” Tella declared. “Despite enormous revenues and earnings, the state has little to show in terms of development. Several major projects inherited from past administrations remain incomplete, while campaign promises such as the Agro-Cargo Airport and road networks linking Ogun with Lagos are yet to materialise.”
Tella further criticised what he described as the lopsided execution of infrastructure projects, saying the administration has disproportionately favoured the governor’s hometown.

“There is an evident bias in infrastructure delivery, with Iperu and its surroundings receiving undue attention, while rural areas like Ogun Waterside, Imeko, Yewa North, and Ipokia are abandoned,” he said. “Several campaign projects have either stalled or remained on paper, with a limited visible impact on the grassroots.”

On healthcare, the PDP said public health services are on the verge of collapse due to poor funding and lack of personnel.
“There has been no improvement in access to quality healthcare, especially at the primary level,” Tella noted. “Many public health centres have been abandoned. The situation is dire and calls for urgent intervention.”

Turning to the education sector, the PDP accused the state government of peddling “naked lies and falsehood” while public schools, especially in rural areas, continue to depend on community efforts to stay functional.

“Despite claims of school rehabilitation, teacher welfare improvements, and digital learning initiatives, public schools in rural areas remain neglected,” Tella stated. “This has contributed to a rising number of out-of-school children in those communities.”
The PDP also lambasted the administration’s approach to youth empowerment, describing it as superficial and poorly structured.

“Many of the so-called empowerment schemes are nothing more than smokescreens to siphon public resources,” Tella alleged. “There is no genuine intention to create jobs or empower the youth meaningfully.”

He further condemned the administration’s lack of openness and public engagement.

“Poor communication with citizens, limited town hall meetings, and rampant allegations of nepotism in the siting of projects and appointments are the trademarks of this government,” Tella said. “There is no transparency in contract awards or infrastructure spending. The just-concluded Gateway Games is a prime example. Despite public outcry, the government refused to disclose how much was spent on the festival.”

The PDP chairman lamented the state of governance in Ogun, stating that “democracy has suffered and Ogun State has suffered more under the clueless watch of Mr Dapo Abiodun.”

He, however, called on residents not to give up hope, assuring them that better days lie ahead.
“Hope is not lost,” Tella affirmed. “A comforting period is around the corner one that will wipe away the tears of the people.”
As of the time of this report, the Ogun State Government is yet to respond to the allegations.
