The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified its call to border communities, urging them to provide credible intelligence to assist in combating smuggling and related illegal activities. Godwin Otunla, Area Comptroller of Ogun I Area Command, highlighted that the fight against smuggling is not a task for Customs alone but a shared responsibility that demands community collaboration.
Speaking from Idiroko, Ogun State, Otunla emphasised, “We remain vigilant, resolute, and unyielding. No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our personnel will continue to thwart your antics and bring the full weight of the law against you.” He warned smugglers and their collaborators to desist from illegal trade, assuring that the command will not relent in their efforts.
The comptroller acknowledged the critical support and cooperation received from sister agencies and stressed that innovation and intelligence-sharing remain vital weapons in the ongoing battle against smuggling across Nigeria’s borders.
