The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) have vowed to deliver the transformative National Single Window (NSW) project by the first quarter of 2026, heralding a new era of streamlined trade and economic growth.

At a pivotal meeting held at the NCS Corporate Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, senior officials from both agencies reviewed progress towards the project’s implementation. Launched by the federal government in April 2024, the NSW aims to revolutionise trade facilitation, enhance economic competitiveness, and integrate Nigeria’s trade ecosystem into a modern, digital framework.

FIRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, underscored the project’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for economic revitalisation. “The National Single Window is more than a technological leap; it is a gateway to a connected, efficient, and transparent trade system,” he stated at the project’s inauguration. By linking ports, government agencies, and key stakeholders, the platform will streamline cargo clearance, reduce bottlenecks, and expand the tax base by formalising the informal e-commerce sector.

President Tinubu has mandated the NSW Steering Committee to ensure full operational readiness by Q1 2026. Speaking at the meeting, Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, highlighted the critical role of collaboration. “This initiative is a cornerstone of the administration’s strategy to foster a competitive trade environment. By integrating advanced technology into clearance and compliance processes, we aim to create a modern trade ecosystem that drives efficiency and economic growth,” he said.

Mr Adedeji reiterated FIRS’s commitment, emphasising the urgency of meeting the deadline. “We are fully aligned with the Customs Service to ensure the successful launch of the first phase by March 2026. Our collaboration is vital to delivering this transformative project on time,” he affirmed.

Tola Fakolade, Director of the NSW Project, described the platform as a central hub uniting all relevant agencies, including Customs, into a seamless digital system. “Achieving integration now is crucial to meeting our Q1 2026 target. We are committed to providing the necessary support to keep this ambitious project on track,” he added.
