Veteran Nigerian comedian Ali Baba and his media company, XQZMOI TV, were recently evicted from a luxury property on Victoria Island following a Federal High Court ruling that the mansion belongs to the family of its original owner.
The eviction, enforced by court bailiffs on August 15, 2025, reversed a previous sale by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which had sold the property to Ali Baba for ₦220 million in 2021 during ongoing litigation over ownership.
AMCON had claimed the sale was part of debt recovery from Harold Expansion Industries Nigeria Limited, but the company contested the debt repayment, with their lawyer, Benjamin Olayiwola Sadibo, asserting the sale was wrongful.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa dismissed AMCON’s case on July 31, 2025, citing lack of evidence, including the absence of a statement of account, and ruled that the property be returned to its original owners, ordering AMCON to pay ₦500 million in damages.
Although Ali Baba had purchased the property, records revealed the transaction occurred amid active litigation and despite a preservation order. Prior to AMCON’s eviction, Ali Baba was a tenant of the original owners.
Outside court battles, Ali Baba recently celebrated personal joy when he and wife Mary Akpobome dedicated their triplets in a church ceremony that garnered social media attention.
