Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has publicly distanced himself from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to expel Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and other high-profile party members.
In a statement released Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang asserted that the expulsion motion, which passed at the PDP’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, does not reflect his position.
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the statement read.
Mutfwang specifically clarified that the issue of expulsions was never discussed or deliberated upon by the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee (NEC) before it was presented on the convention floor.
The Governor further stressed that expelling key party stakeholders at this crucial juncture is not a strategic solution to the party’s ongoing internal challenges. Instead, he called for unity, dialogue, and a collective effort to rebuild and reposition the PDP for future success.
The expulsions, which also included Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), were moved by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) Bode George and seconded by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga. Governor Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote, which was reportedly overwhelmingly endorsed by the delegates.
