••Former President’s Office Denounces “Fake News” as Fabricated

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has vehemently denied reports claiming he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general election. The denial comes in response to a viral story that falsely attributed statements to Jonathan, suggesting he believed no opposition coalition could prevent Tinubu’s re-election.
The disputed report, titled “Tinubu Will Win 2027 Presidential Election – Goodluck Jonathan,” alleged that the former president made the endorsement during his recent visit to Seoul, South Korea, where he received the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize.
However, Jonathan’s Media Office has swiftly refuted these claims, labeling the story as “fake news” and a complete fabrication. His Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, issued a statement on Wednesday, categorically denying the report’s veracity.
“The attention of the Media Office of His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2010–2015) has been drawn to a piece of false information with the above title, currently spreading on a segment of the social media,” the statement read.
“This is fake news fabricated by agents of disinformation. At no point did Dr. Jonathan speak to any journalist on the forthcoming 2027 elections.”
The statement underscores the growing issue of misinformation and the rapid spread of fabricated news within the Nigerian political landscape, particularly on social media platforms. Jonathan’s prompt denial aims to clarify his stance and counter the misleading narrative, ensuring the public receives accurate information.
