The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has praised the Nasarawa State Government for its support of newly established Army units, citing the partnership as a key driver in boosting operational readiness and national security.
General Shaibu made these remarks on Friday, October 9, 2026, during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule at Government House, Lafia. The visit coincided with the COAS’s tour of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Doma, where he oversaw the graduation of a new Special Forces battalion.
Addressing the Governor, the COAS emphasized that the Army’s expansion from eight to 12 divisions requires a more robust force disposition and closer synergy with state authorities. He thanked Governor Sule and the people of Nasarawa for providing the land and infrastructure necessary for these units to hit the ground running.
“The expanded military presence in Nasarawa is a strategic move to sharpen our response to emerging threats and ensure lasting stability in the North-Central region,” the COAS stated.
In his remarks, Governor Sule welcomed the expansion, noting that the presence of the military has already improved the security climate in the state. He described the Army’s projects as a strategic boost to the local economy and pledged his administration’s continued support to ensure the troops can carry out their duties effectively.
