A high-level Chinese delegation has arrived in Venezuela for talks with President Nicolás Maduro, marking a significant diplomatic move amid growing tensions between Caracas and Washington in the Caribbean.

State media in Venezuela confirmed the arrival of the Chinese officials on Tuesday, describing the visit as part of an “accelerated strategic dialogue” between both countries. The delegation is expected to hold closed-door meetings at the Miraflores Palace, where discussions will focus on economic cooperation, defence ties, and regional security.

The visit comes at a sensitive moment, as relations between Venezuela and the United States deteriorate further. Washington has recently stepped up its criticism of Maduro’s government, while increasing military cooperation with several Caribbean nations. In response, Caracas has accused the US of “interventionist posturing” and attempting to undermine the stability of the region.

China, one of Venezuela’s closest global partners, has repeatedly opposed foreign pressure on the Maduro administration. The arrival of its officials is widely interpreted as a signal of Beijing’s continued backing of Caracas at a time of heightened geopolitical friction.

Neither Beijing nor Caracas has disclosed the specific agenda of the talks, but analysts say the discussions could expand China’s economic footprint in Venezuela’s oil and mining sectors, while reinforcing political alignment between the two governments.

The White House has not yet commented on the visit.

More updates are expected as details emerge from the meetings in Caracas.
