A heated session erupted in Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Thursday after Philip Agbese, representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, publicly denied endorsing fellow lawmaker Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere for the position of Minority Leader.

The controversy sparked disorder on the floor of the chamber as Agbese alleged that his signature had been forged and unlawfully included among those purportedly backing Ugochinyere’s bid for the opposition leadership position.

The accusation triggered tense exchanges among lawmakers, briefly disrupting proceedings and exposing deep divisions within the minority caucus over its leadership succession.

The development adds a new layer of uncertainty to the ongoing contest for key opposition positions in the lower legislative chamber, with questions now being raised over the authenticity of documents submitted in support of leadership nominations.
