Fresh CCTV surveillance has exposed individuals vandalising public infrastructure by stealing cat’s eye lights on the Third Mainland Bridge, prompting renewed warnings from authorities over the protection of critical assets.
The footage, which has since circulated online, shows suspected vandals removing the reflective road safety devices installed along the bridge to enhance night-time visibility and reduce accidents. The Third Mainland Bridge, one of Lagos’ busiest transport corridors, carries thousands of vehicles daily and is considered a strategic piece of infrastructure.
Officials described the act as reckless and dangerous, noting that the removal of cat’s eye lights compromises road safety, especially at night and during heavy rainfall. They stressed that such vandalism puts motorists at risk and undermines significant public investment in road maintenance and safety upgrades.
Authorities warned that the bridge and other key infrastructure are under increased surveillance, with perpetrators facing arrest and prosecution. They also urged residents to take collective responsibility by reporting suspicious activities around public facilities.
The development reinforces ongoing government campaigns against infrastructure vandalism, as well as calls for stricter enforcement and public cooperation to safeguard assets meant to serve all citizens.
