Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has emerged as Africa’s most-followed streamer on Twitch following a high-profile livestream collaboration with Afrobeats star Davido.
The milestone was confirmed after checks showed that Carter Efe’s Twitch account had crossed 406,000 followers, overtaking the previous African record held by comedian and content creator Shank Comics, who has about 233,000 followers. The surge followed a livestream hosted on December 17, 2025, which featured Davido and attracted unprecedented attention across the continent.
Before the collaboration was announced, Carter Efe reportedly had about 322,000 followers. Within a few days, his account recorded an increase of roughly 160,000 followers, a growth analysts attribute largely to Davido’s appearance and the buzz generated around the session.
Beyond follower growth, the livestream also set new performance benchmarks. The broadcast peaked at approximately 83,000 concurrent viewers, making it the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa to date. Carter Efe also became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform, further underlining the scale of the achievement.
During the livestream, Davido interacted extensively with viewers and played an active role in broadening the scope of the session. He placed live calls to several prominent figures, including nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest and Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, whose brief appearance introduced a crossover between Nigeria’s entertainment and sports audiences.
At one point, Davido used the opportunity to speak about influence and responsibility, advising the streamer to remain grounded despite the sudden rise in visibility. “Don’t use these blessings to go out and fight a war when you don’t need to,” the singer said during the broadcast.
The session also featured lighter, unscripted moments that fuelled online conversations. Content creator Enzo made an unexpected appearance, challenging Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing bout to demonstrate loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base, a scene that quickly circulated on social media platforms.
While the numbers mark a clear personal milestone for Carter Efe, industry observers caution against viewing celebrity-driven spikes as automatic indicators of long-term success. Some analysts argue that sustaining engagement after such high-profile collaborations remains a major test for digital creators, particularly on platforms like Twitch where consistency is critical.
