Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured a sweeping victory in the ruling party’s primary election for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat in northern Katsina State.
The result, announced after the conclusion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, saw Yusuf Buhari poll a commanding 5,849 votes, far ahead of his challenger, Hon. Auwal Lawal Daura, who managed just 21 votes.
The overwhelming margin of victory has triggered widespread reactions across political circles in Katsina, particularly in Daura — the hometown and long-standing political stronghold of the Buhari family.
Yusuf Buhari’s emergence is being viewed by supporters as a continuation of the Buhari political legacy in Nigeria’s northwest, while critics say the development further highlights the growing influence of political dynasties within the country’s democratic system.
The APC candidate is now expected to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming election for the federal constituency seat, a contest likely to attract national attention due to the Buhari family name and its enduring political influence in the region.
