Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing to a close a distinguished career spanning nearly two decades across multiple continents. The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner confirmed the decision on his social media platform X, reflecting on a journey marked by resilience, passion, and national pride.

“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football,” Ideye posted. “I thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed. My gratitude goes to my family, friends, coaches, teammates, agents, journalists, and the fans who supported me throughout.”

Ideye’s international exploits include 28 appearances for the Super Eagles between 2010 and 2016, netting six goals. He was instrumental in Nigeria’s triumphant 2013 AFCON campaign under coach Stephen Keshi, also featuring at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

His club career was equally notable, beginning in Nigeria with Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys before moving to European leagues. Ideye played for French side Sochaux and enjoyed success with Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine. He also contributed four Premier League goals during his spell with West Bromwich Albion.

The striker further showcased his talents with teams including Olympiacos, Tianjin Teda, Málaga, and Aris Thessaloniki, before returning to Nigeria to play for Enyimba, where he made his final professional appearance in May 2025.

“Though my time as a pro-player has come to an end, football will always be a part of my life as I enter my next chapter,” he affirmed.
