••Kano State Police Commissioner Announces Prohibition to Maintain Public Order Amid Tensions

The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities traditionally held during the Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities. The decision, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order, was made by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.
CP Bakori emphasized the command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for residents during the upcoming celebrations. He stated that security assessments had revealed growing tensions and potential threats associated with the Durbar, which could lead to unrest.
“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” CP Bakori announced.
The Commissioner assured residents that adequate security measures have been implemented to safeguard Eid prayers at designated grounds. He urged worshippers to adhere to security guidelines, including refraining from carrying unnecessary items that could cause suspicion and strictly prohibiting horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.
CP Bakori also appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children against being used by subversive elements and to ensure adherence to public order to prevent breaches of peace.
“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” he urged.
The Police Command further called for continued collaboration with security agencies and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
This development comes after the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, had already announced the suspension of his Sallah Durbar plans in the interest of peace.

Earlier, Ado Bayero had requested police protection for his Sallah activities. However, concerns had been mounting over potential violence, as the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was also making preparations for Sallah events following a directive from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
