The Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has approved the establishment of a special court dedicated to the speedy trial of cultism and kidnapping cases, marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to curb violent crime.
The approval followed a formal request by Governor Monday Okpebholo, who wrote to the Chief Judge on 19 June seeking the creation of a specialised court to expedite the prosecution of offenders and strengthen the administration of justice.
The new court is expected to accelerate the handling of cultism and kidnapping-related cases, which have remained major security challenges in parts of Edo State, as authorities intensify efforts to restore law and order.
