The African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, has renewed its allegation that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is funding a deliberate effort to destroy the ADC by paying a former party official, Nafiu Bala, to engineer a damaging factional crisis.
For weeks, the ADC has accused the APC of using Bala – a former member of the ADC National Working Committee – to sow confusion and split the party, but it has previously acknowledged a lack of tangible proof. However, the party now says it has obtained evidence: photographs showing a known APC chieftain leading a protest today at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja in support of Nafiu Bala’s camp.
The Alleged APC Figure
The ADC named the protest leader as Ibrahim Lawal Muhammed, also known as Dubagari Jnr. According to the party, Muhammed currently holds several high-ranking positions within the APC in Nasarawa State, including:
– Coordinator of the Renewed Hope program;
– Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor;
– Assistant to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG);
– Recently named State Secretary for *Made in Nigeria Products.
“Despite these clear government and APC ties, he is physically leading the protest at the INEC headquarters today in support of Nafiu Bala,” the ADC said in a statement. “This is the evidence we have been waiting for. We will keep exposing the people Nafiu Bala works with who are being paid by the APC.”
The ADC has been grappling with a bitter leadership tussle. The David Mark–led faction insists that the crisis is not an internal ideological disagreement but an externally engineered coup, orchestrated by the APC to weaken a potential opposition voice. Nafiu Bala, once a senior ADC official, has been at the centre of the schism, with his faction challenging the Mark leadership.
Until today, the ADC had offered no direct link between Bala and the APC, making its claims easy for the ruling party to dismiss. The emergence of a sitting APC state official leading a pro-Bala protest is now being presented as the missing link.
The ADC has promised to release more names and documentary evidence in the coming days.
