Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the “blood of innocent Nigerians” will be the ultimate judge of the current administration’s failure to tackle the nation’s escalating security crisis.

Atiku’s reaction follows a defiant statement made by President Tinubu on Wednesday, in which the President reaffirmed his intention to seek re-election regardless of the country’s challenges. Addressing the insecurity currently plaguing the nation, Tinubu suggested that his political opponents were attempting to weaponize the crisis to derail his second-term ambitions.

“You are playing into the hands of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me,” Tinubu had stated. “I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term.”

### ‘Troubling Rhetoric’
Responding through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the President’s comments as “troubling” and “casually reductive.”

The former Vice President argued that the administration’s legacy would not be defined by political maneuvering, but by the lives lost under its watch.

“It is not political opponents who will judge this administration; it is the blood of innocent Nigerians being shed daily across our land,” Atiku said. “That blood cries out louder than any declaration of political resolve.”

### Governance on Trial
Atiku expressed dismay that a period of national mourning and insecurity was being framed as a “political game” by the Presidency. He accused the administration of lacking empathy for the victims of recent attacks.

“It is horrifying that the memories of innocent citizens slain due to the failure of the government to provide adequate security would be so casually reduced to political rhetoric,” the statement continued. “It is disturbing that such heinous incidents have yet to attract the empathy or acknowledgment they deserve from the highest levels of government.”

He further maintained that no amount of political “bravado” could distract from the harsh reality facing Nigerian communities.

“No amount of deflection or intimidation can rewrite the lived reality of Nigerians. When lives are lost and communities are destroyed, governance itself is put on trial. At a time like this, Nigerians do not need declarations of staying power; they need proof of leadership,” Atiku concluded.
