Desmond Elliot, lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has called on Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring them that brighter days lie ahead.

Speaking at the 10th Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Thursday at Methodist Church Hall, Small London, Surulere, Mr Elliot highlighted the theme “Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He stressed that the Tinubu-led government had made visible strides across critical sectors, including the economy, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and education.

“Tinubu’s administration has strengthened foreign partnerships, making it easier for investors to come into the country without facing cumbersome immigration hurdles. There is relative peace across Nigeria, and this stability will drive the much-needed investment for economic growth,” Mr Elliot said.

The legislator also pointed to the availability of free scholarships for Nigerian students regardless of tribe or gender, as well as landmark projects such as the coastal highway, which he said would accelerate national development once completed.

Mr Elliot underscored the importance of stakeholder engagements, noting that town hall meetings serve as vital platforms for gathering feedback and addressing pressing concerns.

Acknowledging current hardships, he reminded residents that the government had forewarned of initial challenges at the start of the administration. “We were told to brace up because the journey to better living would not be easy. However, improvements are already visible, and the period of hardship will soon give way to relief,” he assured.

Highlighting progress in fiscal matters, he said: “We have successfully realised our budget for the year. This shows that the indices are aligning in our favour, and Nigerians will begin to witness tangible improvements.”

The lawmaker further encouraged constituents to play their part in grassroots development, stressing that governance is a shared responsibility.

“The federal government has ensured direct allocations to local councils. It is now up to citizens to demand accountability from their local government chairmen on how these funds are being utilised,” Mr Elliot added.
