Tension swept through Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, on Thursday afternoon after Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo suddenly collapsed in his office and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
The incident occurred around 1:30 pm, triggering an emergency response. Eyewitnesses stated the deputy governor appeared gravely ill upon arrival at the hospital’s emergency unit.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo has since been stabilized and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at FMC. While no official statement has been made regarding the cause of his condition, insider sources indicate it may be linked to a cardiac emergency.
A close associate of the deputy governor commented on his rigorous workload, saying, “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest.”
Security personnel have secured the hospital premises, and top government officials have visited the deputy governor to offer support. Efforts to reach his media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, for an official comment were unsuccessful. Hospital sources assured that Senator Ewhrudjakpo is receiving the best possible medical care and remains stable.
