An influencer has interviewed a local resident who allegedly linked Bauchi South Senator Shehu Buba Umar to a banditry network associated with notorious kingpin Dogo Gide.
The allegations, reported by Sahara Reporters, centre on claims made by the resident during an interview, in which he purportedly connected the senator to individuals operating within the criminal network.
The claims are serious but remain allegations, and there is no indication from the report that Senator Shehu Buba has been convicted of, or formally found guilty of, involvement in banditry.
The interview has nevertheless drawn attention because of the senator’s prominent political position and the sensitivity of allegations involving organised criminal groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria.
Dogo Gide is one of the prominent bandit leaders associated with armed groups operating in north-western Nigeria. Authorities have previously linked his network to kidnappings, attacks and other violent crimes.
The resident’s account, as presented in the interview, raises questions about alleged relationships between political figures and criminal networks. However, such claims would require independent verification and supporting evidence before they could be established as fact.
Senator Shehu Buba, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has not been established by the available account to have participated in any criminal activity.
The allegations come amid heightened public concern over banditry, kidnapping and the activities of armed criminal groups across northern Nigeria, with security agencies continuing efforts to dismantle such networks.
