Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the suspension and subsequent reinstatement of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly, branding the action unconstitutional.
In a statement on Thursday via his official X handle, Atiku said there was “nothing to celebrate” in the lifting of the suspension, arguing that Tinubu had no constitutional power to remove elected officials.
“The suspension of the Rivers Governor and Assembly was unconstitutional six months ago and remains illegal today,” he wrote, warning that the episode signalled a drift towards dictatorship.
Tinubu had on Wednesday lifted the emergency rule in Rivers, directing Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and state lawmakers to resume office.
