The Ata Igala and Chairman of the Kogi State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Agabaidu Dr. Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, CFR, has approved the conferment of an honorary chieftaincy title on renowned legal luminary, Barrister J.S. Okutepa, SAN.
In a letter signed by the Secretary of the Igala Area Traditional Council, Mallam Omale Jibrin Onuche, the monarch announced that Okutepa is to be conferred with the title of **Ogohi Ata-Igala**. Upon installation, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria will be addressed with the traditional salutation, “Dooga.”
According to the Council, the honor is in recognition of Okutepa’s “immense contributions to the socio-economic development of the Igala Kingdom, Kogi State, and Nigeria at large.”
The conferment follows extensive consultations by the Ata Igala with his traditional council. The legal icon is expected to formally communicate his acceptance to the palace to finalize the installation proceedings.
