Chief David Sabo Kente, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, has warned that the party is on the verge of a “serious implosion” if the influx of new defectors is not managed with inclusivity and fairness.

Speaking to journalists in a New Year message on Monday, Kente expressed concern over the shifting power dynamics within the party. He noted that while the APC welcomes new members, the marginalization of founding members—those who built and sustained the party’s structure—could lead to a total collapse of internal stability.

“In the coming days, we expect those who have defected from other parties and taken over structures to ensure we coexist harmoniously,” Kente stated. “If founding members are relegated to irrelevance, it will trigger protests and a disastrous implosion. We must do the right thing to remain a focused and united force ahead of the next elections.”

Kente, a former Commissioner representing Taraba at the North East Development Commission (NEDC), also addressed the political friction within the state. He revealed that despite supporting the current governor during his transition from the PDP, many stakeholders feel sidelined.

While describing his relationship with the governor as “cordial,” Kente cautioned against “wicked elements” fanning the embers of discord for personal gain.

Beyond party politics, the chieftain called on the Federal Government to address the “pathetic” state of infrastructure in Taraba, specifically road networks. He also urged security agencies to build on the relative peace experienced during the Yuletide season.

“No single group can be an island; we need one another to thrive,” Kente concluded. “I urge all political players to play by the book and eschew desperation as we approach the next political era.”
