The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has expressed deep satisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, commended the National Council of State for endorsing Amupitan’s appointment, which he described as a well-deserved recognition for one of the region’s most accomplished sons. Zazzaga highlighted that the appointment is a reflection of the quality of professionals in the North-Central region, capable of excelling in critical national roles.
“We are filled with pride as the North-Central APC Forum welcomes the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as INEC Chairman,” Zazzaga stated. “This marks another milestone in the region’s contribution to national development, showcasing the calibre of professionals who can be entrusted with important responsibilities.”
Zazzaga further commended President Tinubu for his recognition of Amupitan’s competence and integrity, calling him a “round peg in a round hole.” He emphasized that Amupitan’s exemplary career as a legal scholar, practitioner, and administrator made him an ideal fit for the position, especially as the country approaches critical electoral processes.
“Professor Amupitan’s track record speaks for itself. His outstanding career at the University of Jos, where he mentored numerous generations of lawyers for over three decades, assures us that he is well-equipped to deliver credible, free, and fair elections,” the Forum added.
The group called on all Nigerians, particularly stakeholders in the electoral process, to provide Amupitan with the necessary support to succeed in his new role.
Professor Amupitan, who hails from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos, specializing in Company Law, Law of Evidence, Corporate Governance, and Privatisation Law. He was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in September 2014, following years of distinguished service in academia and the legal profession.
Before his appointment, he served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos. He has also held the position of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Joseph Ayo Babalola University in Osun State.
