Jeff Nweke, the Action Alliance (AA) candidate for the upcoming November 8 Anambra governorship election, has sternly condemned vote-buying, describing it as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic progress and societal well-being.
In a statement issued from Awka, the state capital, on Thursday, Nweke expressed deep concern over reports of vote-buying during the August 16 Anambra by-election. He urged Nigerians of conscience to unite and reject this corrupt practice, emphasising that failure to do so could jeopardise the nation’s future.
“Vote commercialisation is the root cause of corruption that has deeply penetrated our society and is fostering numerous other evils troubling the nation,” Nweke asserted.
He lamented the prevailing ethical decay in Anambra’s political landscape, describing the situation as “an acute loss of decency,” with politicians increasingly adopting self-serving and morally deficient approaches in pursuit of power.
“It is unfortunate and shameful that we have witnessed a degeneration of sensible political strategy, resulting in narrow-mindedness and a lack of moral compass,” he added.
