Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly condemned the political group ADC Vanguard for falsely attributing statements to him.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, El-Rufai made it clear that he never made the remarks circulating online and disowned the fabricated quotes.
“Dear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions,” El-Rufai said.
He emphasised that his disavowal of the false statements is not necessarily due to disagreement with the content, but because the quotes were never his words. He added, “That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith.”
The controversy arose after ADC Vanguard shared and subsequently deleted a post which wrongly cited El-Rufai as describing President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “Nigeria’s most corrupt and dishonest government” and accused it of shamelessly looting while deceiving the public.
Following El-Rufai’s public rebuttal, ADC Vanguard issued a formal apology. “Dear Mallam El-Rufai, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you,” the group stated.
They pledged to rely solely on verified and authentic sources going forward and expressed gratitude to El-Rufai for addressing the matter respectfully and clearly.
