Nollywood actor and political commentator Kenneth Okonkwo has called for the removal of Senator Godswill Akpabio, describing him as “an enemy of democracy” over concerns related to the recently amended Electoral Act.
Speaking on national television on Thursday, Okonkwo accused Akpabio of using his influence to undermine democratic processes, warning that such actions could erode public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.
“The Electoral Act is meant to strengthen our democracy, not to serve the interests of a few powerful individuals,” Okonkwo said. “Senator Akpabio has shown time and again that he prioritises personal gains over the will of the people. He should be removed from office.”
The call has sparked debate across social media platforms, with citizens divided over the implications of Okonkwo’s statements for Nigeria’s political landscape. Analysts say the controversy highlights ongoing tensions between lawmakers and civil society over electoral reforms.
