Senate President Godswill Akpabio has endorsed capital punishment for kidnappers, applauding President Bola Tinubu’s security efforts and forecasting unified APC support for the 2027 elections.
Addressing the APC’s 14th National Caucus meeting on 18 December 2025 in Abuja, Akpabio hailed recent rescues of kidnapped victims and Tinubu’s role in stabilising Benin Republic. If our neighbours are not stable, Nigeria cannot be stable, he stated, extending condolences to families of fallen security personnel.
He confirmed pending presidential assent to legislation equating kidnapping with terrorism, imposing death sentences. Kidnappers will face the death sentence once the President assents to the bill, Akpabio warned, stressing enforcement to prevent jailbreaks and further violence.
Welcoming defectors like Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Akpabio urged harmonious relations with party elders and projected growing APC strength translating to bloc votes and victory” in 2027, citing improved ties in Enugu as a model for regions like Rivers and Delta.
