The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced it will investigate allegations of irregularities arising from its recently concluded presidential primary process.
Hon. Chille Igbawua, a member of the ADC Electoral Panel and adviser to the party’s national chairman, stated that the party remains committed to transparency and will thoroughly review all formal complaints.
Speaking on the concerns raised by some aspirants, Igbawua explained that the ADC has established post-exercise structures to ensure internal processes meet acceptable standards.
“The party is very keen on ensuring that when it puts its processes into action, they are analyzed afterward to determine if the process went well or not,” he said.
Igbawua urged dissatisfied members to utilize the party’s internal grievance and appeal mechanisms rather than taking their complaints to the public. He described premature public accusations as “jumping the gun.”
“Anybody who is aggrieved by the primary process should approach the appeal committee and state their reasons,” he stated.
Defending the credibility of the primary, Igbawua argued that the spread of votes among top contenders demonstrated a competitive and level playing field. He pointed to regional results as evidence that no single candidate was unfairly favored.
“Each of them winning in different places shows they had political reach,” Igbawua added. “Atiku has lost at times; those who don’t win against him will learn lessons.”
Despite the party’s insistence that the process was credible, the ADC presidential primary continues to draw mixed reactions, with several aspirants maintaining that the exercise was marred by irregularities.
