The Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed a new leader and coordinating team for its State Leadership Transition (SLT) Team. This strategic development marks the party’s renewed commitment to building robust organizational structures ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

At a well-attended meeting held at the newly inaugurated ADC State Party Office in Minna, the motion presented by Hon. Abdullahi MaiBasira was unanimously approved by members of the Niger State ADC Transition Leadership Team. Rt. Hon. Baba Shehu Agaie (OFR) was appointed as the Leader of ADC in Niger State and concurrently chairs the Transition Leadership Team. Rt. Hon. Agaie brings a wealth of political experience, having served as Deputy Leader in the Nigerian House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011.

The appointment of Rt. Hon. Agaie signals ADC’s intent to leverage seasoned political expertise to navigate the complex political terrain in Niger State. Supporting him is a newly constituted Coordinating Secretariat, featuring Hon. Umar Shuaibu as Coordinator, Hon. Naziru Muhammad as Secretary, and Comrade Sadiq Lwafu as Deputy Coordinator. Notably, Hon. Shuaibu, a former State Chairman of the defunct CPC and Chairman of the Buhari Support Organization, brings invaluable grassroots mobilization experience and organizational acumen to the team.

The meeting, chaired by ADC National Treasurer Dr. Ibrahim Mani, not only resolved previous internal disputes but officially launched the SLT’s strategic operations in Niger State. The successful transition comes at a crucial time as ADC seeks to position itself as a formidable player in the state’s political landscape, countering dominant parties and expanding its voter base.

Prominent ADC members in attendance included Hajiya Hassana Dada, Rt. Hon. Ndanusa Hassan, Rt. Hon. Umar Musa Ma’ali, Rt. Hon. Idris Ndako Kpaki, Hon. Usman Tinau Muhammad, Hon. Bala Merger, and Rt. Hon. Tsonwa Gamuno, reflecting the broad support and diverse expertise backing the new leadership.

ADC’s strategic positioning in Niger State underscores the party’s readiness to contest vigorously in upcoming elections, harnessing experienced leadership, grassroots networks, and a unified vision aimed at delivering effective governance. The SLT team is expected to spearhead initiatives that will galvanize support, enhance policy outreach, and strengthen party structures ahead of 2027 and beyond.

As ADC rapidly consolidates its presence in Niger State, political observers see the new leadership as pivotal in challenging entrenched political interests and broadening the democratic space in the region. The coming months will be critical as the team rolls out its agenda to engage youth, women, and other key stakeholders, building a resilient political movement aligned with ADC’s national goals.
