A senior official of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the ongoing prosecution of former public office holders by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), insisting that the actions will not intimidate or weaken opposition parties.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Monday, the ADC chieftain said the alleged move to prosecute Abubakar Malami and Nasir El-Rufai was politically motivated and aimed at silencing critical voices ahead of future electoral contests.

According to the party official, opposition figures in Nigeria remain resolute and will not be distracted from holding the government accountable.

“No amount of intimidation or selective prosecution will deter the opposition from speaking for Nigerians. Democracy thrives on plurality, and attempts to harass perceived rivals only weaken public trust in state institutions,” he said.

The ADC further urged anti-graft agencies to operate strictly within the bounds of the law, stressing that accountability efforts must be transparent and free from political influence. The party warned that using state institutions as tools against opposition leaders could undermine democratic norms and deepen national divisions.

While reaffirming its support for genuine anti-corruption campaigns, the ADC called on the EFCC to ensure due process and fairness in all investigations, adding that Nigerians deserve justice that is impartial and credible.

The party concluded by assuring its supporters that it would remain focused on policy advocacy, grassroots mobilisation and presenting alternative leadership options, regardless of external pressure.
