African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally expelled Leke Abejide — the member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives for Yagba East/West/Mopamuro (Kogi State) — for repeated “acts of indiscipline”, the party announced on Thursday.
The decision was ratified by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) during a meeting at its Abuja headquarters, endorsing an earlier recommendation by the Kogi State chapter.
According to the party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the move underscores ADC’s commitment to internal discipline, character and integrity — and its unwillingness to tolerate misconduct from any member, regardless of rank.
The NWC also directed the Kogi State leadership to promptly fill all resulting vacancies at ward, local government and state levels, ahead of upcoming congresses.
Abejide — a two-term federal lawmaker and former chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise — had previously faced suspension by the Kogi ADC over alleged anti-party activities in August 2025.
But his camp challenged the suspension, arguing it came from a faction lacking legitimate authority within the party.
In response to the expulsion, Abejide’s team dismissed the petition for his seat vacancy as “baseless” and said the individuals behind it lacked legal standing under both party rules and constitutional provisions.
As of now, the contested seat remains held by Abejide — but political watchers say the move could further fragment the party’s fragile structure ahead of future elections.
