The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has dismissed widespread rumours that veteran Yoruba actor Olalere OsunPaimo, a towering figure in Nigeria’s cultural and performing arts scene, has passed away.
In a statement released on Friday, the ANTP described the reports as “false and deeply misleading,” urging the public and media outlets to verify information before sharing unconfirmed news.
OsunPaimo, widely celebrated for his decades-long contributions to Yoruba theatre and Nollywood, has been a cornerstone of Nigerian cultural heritage, inspiring generations of actors and theatre enthusiasts.
The actor himself, reportedly in good health, expressed gratitude to fans for their concern while stressing the importance of combating misinformation in the digital age.
“This is a reminder that in the era of social media, verifying facts is more important than ever,” the ANTP statement read.
The false reports had circulated widely on social media platforms, prompting concern among fans and colleagues across the country. The association’s swift clarification appears to have stemmed further speculation.
