Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it will proceed with its planned congresses and national convention, insisting electoral authorities have already been formally notified despite an ongoing leadership dispute.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said the ADC had fulfilled its legal obligation by giving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a 21-day notice ahead of the events.

“We will go ahead with our congresses. We have given INEC 21 days’ notice, they have accepted. Whether they come or not, we will continue with our congresses and our convention,” Abdullahi said.

The statement comes after INEC announced it would suspend recognition of the ADC leadership until the conclusion of a court case surrounding the party’s internal crisis.

The standoff sets the stage for a potential clash between the electoral body and the opposition party, raising fresh questions about party governance and the legal boundaries of electoral oversight in Nigeria.
