Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has described the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway as the most prioritised infrastructure project under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying no other federal road project has received the same level of attention.
Speaking on the progress of the multi-billion-naira highway, Umahi said the second phase of the project is expected to be completed by November this year, expressing confidence that construction remains on schedule.
The minister also highlighted what he described as overwhelming community support for the project, revealing that residents across the northern corridor have been providing daily meals to construction workers free of charge as a gesture of appreciation for the ongoing work.
“They feed the contractor every day without charge because they appreciate the impact the road will have on their lives,” Umahi said.
He added that the completed first section of the highway will be commissioned exclusively by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscoring the administration’s commitment to delivering one of Nigeria’s most strategic transport corridors.
The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway is a critical economic artery linking the Federal Capital Territory with major commercial and agricultural hubs in northern Nigeria. Once completed, the project is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic activities across the region.
