The Sultan of Sokoto has urged Nigerian youths to shun political thuggery, banditry and other forms of criminality, warning against activities that threaten peace, security and national development.
The Sultan called on young people to embrace peaceful conduct and channel their energy towards productive ventures that would contribute to the progress of their communities and the country at large.
He stressed the importance of youth participation in building a peaceful and stable society, urging them not to allow themselves to be used by individuals seeking to advance personal or political interests through violence.
Political thuggery remains a concern in Nigeria, particularly during election periods, when young people are sometimes recruited to intimidate opponents, disrupt political activities and perpetrate violence.
Similarly, banditry and other forms of insecurity have continued to affect communities in parts of the country, with devastating consequences for lives, livelihoods and economic activities.
The Sultan’s appeal highlights the need for greater collaboration among traditional rulers, government authorities, religious leaders and community stakeholders to address the factors driving young people towards violence and criminal activities.
He urged youths to become agents of peace and positive change, emphasising the importance of responsible citizenship in building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
